Just this morning when I woke up, I can feel that there is watery something flowing in my nose, fluid that really wants to escape from the inner me going through my nasal' passage. I feel strange about it, knowing that I don't have runny nose. As I grabbed a towel beside my bed to wipe it, I was flabbergasted when I saw blood. I got epistaxis! I came to deduce, maybe its because I got headache last night, thats why this happened to me. So, immediately, I wet the towel and applied it in my nose and cheeks, keeping my head above my heart then after few minutes I took a bath. Then there you are, I am now feeling better.

Actually our nose is really prone to bleeding. Why? Its because our nose is rich with lots of blood vessels which help warm and humidity the air we breathe. These vessels lies close to the surface making them mere to mutilate.

Anyways, nosebleed is somehow can be treated at home. According to the article that I have read, if you get a nosebleed, sit down and and lean slightly forward. Keeping your head above from your heart will slow the bleeding. Lean forward so that the blood will drain out of your nose instead down the back of your throat. If you lean back, you may swallow the blood that can cause stomach irritation. Use your thumb and index finger to pinch the soft portions of your nose. Keep holding your nose at least five minutes. Repeat necessary, until your nose has stopped bleeding. Once the bleeding stops, don't do anything to make it start again like bending over or blowing your nose. In my case, I just applied wet towel afterwards or it could be an ice wrapped in a towel too.

No worries, nosebleed can be easily prevented through following the tips:
  • Keep fingernails short to discourage nose picking.
  • Do not smoke. Smoking dries out your nose and also irritates it.
  • Do not blow your nose or put anything into it. Open your mouth when you sneeze so that the air will escape from your mouth and not from your nose.
  • Counteract the drying effects of indoor heated air by using a humidifier at night in your bedroom.

Nosebleed is caused by nose picking, infection, or even hypertension (high blood pressure). As what happened to me this morning, its all because of sudden change of temperature. Everyday, I am having my training in an airconditioned office. During my lunchbreak, I always tend to walk going home to save money of course. Even I have the "cap" still it can resist the fiery rays from the sun. In addition, changes from a cold environment to a warm, dry, heated home emanates in drying and changes in the nose which will make it more gullible to bleeding. Since its summer season, lets just increase our self-awareness about the effects of global warming specially in our health.
