The future of social media

CATEGORY: , | Thursday, May 26, 2011

Social media is revolutionising the way we interact. From status updates about your everyday life on Facebook to opinionated tweets to the corporate face of LinkedIn, everyone is becoming reliant on these websites when managing their social calendar. We’ve all heard the story of Mark Zuckerberg, the young billionaire, internet entrepreneur and founder of Facebook. We all saw how MySpace was crushed by the power of a better idea. But where will the next trillion-making internet invention come from and what will it be? What is the future for social media? Here are a few ideas…

INFORMATION

First of all, media experts are predicting a further enhancement of the amount of information that will become available. More and more personal details will be exposed, and these will be used to enhance all social-media sites. And this won’t just be the knowledge that you use Muslim dating sites – it will go a lot further than this. Think of the Facebook places feature, and imagine if there was a site that tracked you wherever you were so that someone would know if you were busy before phoning you. This will transform the concept of privacy beyond any recognition.

OPINION

Reviews and opinions are already everywhere on the internet. But it is likely that in the future you will have even more freedom to express your opinions. There will be an option to do this ad give ratings on virtually everything on the internet, and social media will continue to be very comment, review and debate heavy.

SEARCH

Social Media will also begin to change the way search engines such as Google operate. Twitter comments and other social-networking content will begin to appear on Google searches. Also, when searching, engines will access your social-media information and target the order of the search results to your interests rather than Google PageRank. This will make finding what you want a lot easier.

MARKETING

Information from social networks will also start to change the way we are marketed to. The use of social network information to advertise and direct people to their markets of interest is something we've already seen a lot of. But this will become even more advanced as we begin to reveal more information. Who knows - we could have soon have a Minority Report style of advertising where you are personally traced and targeted when you enter a shop.

INTEGRATION

Having so many different networking channels can be complicated and irritating. Some predict that sooner or later one social network will come along and replace all of the others, integrating all of our lines of communication. If this does not happen, there will definitely be more advanced ways to integrate all your different channels.

Whether, the dating social networks of http://www.eharmony.co.uk/ or the corporate networksof LinkedIn, the social-media world is changing and changing fast. Who knows how much it might have developed in a few years time?

7 Mistakes Every Rookie Urban Planner Makes

CATEGORY: | Wednesday, April 13, 2011
Rookie urban planners make mistakes.  They're new to the game and have yet to realize how easy it is to make a big mistake in this field.  Here are 7 of those mistakes that every rookie urban planner makes.  Maybe you can realize that you made them before everyone can see the mistakes fully realized.

Not Looking At Plans From Every Angle

It's easy to consider plans from one direction or from just a few directions but you want to consider them from every angle.  What is beautiful when you look at it one way can be an eyesore if you're standing somewhere else.  You need to learn to look at your plans from every angle even if no one else will.

Copying Urban Plans That You Like

There is nothing wrong with getting inspiration from great plans you've seen but you want yours to be original.  If you're just copying plans that you like then you are not giving the project your all.  You can learn from good urban planners but don't let your plans become a carbon copy of theirs.

Getting Lost In Philosophy

This point is for when you are explaining your plans to others.  It is a beautiful thing to talk about how an urban area's design will make people feel and what it will allow them to do.  You can talk about this but don't get lost in the intangible ideas.  Touch on this but focus on concrete details if you want to hold someone's interest.

Not Trusting Your Gut

You can play it safe or you can trust your gut.  Playing it safe may be safe but it isn't going to show what you can really do.  If your gut says to do something different then do something different.  The urban planners who are remembered are the ones that broke away from the mold to create something extraordinary.  You have to make your mark sometime.

Quoting Jane Jacobs

Quoting Jane Jacobs has been done.  It has been done a lot.  Everyone knows the quotes and everyone is a little tired of hearing others use them.  If you want a quote then find one no one has ever heard before and not one from Jane Jacobs.

Trying To Sound Smart

When talking about your work don't try to sound smart.  Let the work itself be enough.  Rookie urban planners have a tendency to try to make themselves sound smart and to make their work sound profound.  If your work is profound then people will know it without you trying to convince them.  The same goes for you being smart.

Choosing Money Over Passion

When you choose urban planning jobs and projects every urban planner at some point chooses a project or job for money instead of passion.  Some go for more money when they'd rather be doing something more meaningful.  Others avoid jobs that pay well because they think they have to make less to be doing meaningful work.  Do the work you love and let the salary fall where it may.

TR HEINECKER shares information with readers on how to find the greatest Masterof Urban Planning programs to fit their needs.

Is your salary or income enough to pay your credit card bills or monthly mortgage payments? If not, then control and limit in taking out credits because if you don't, bad credit will enter. Bad credit is a big red flag! It will limit your lifestyle in several ways and it is costly in the first place.

That is why, if you experience bad credit, you will really need credit repair services to polish up  or repair your credit. Credit repair can be done with your own. Signed Numbers

Still remember the "Rules of Multiplying Signed Numbers"? Actually it consist of two types, the first type involves multiplying numbers with like signs and the other one involves multiplying numbers with unlike signs?

LIKE SIGNS
Rules:
1.) When both factors to be multiplied are positive, the sign of the product is positive.
Example:
567 x 7634 = 4,328,478
We don't need to put the positive sign because numbers with no sign are already considered as positive numbers.

2.) When both factors to be multiplied are negative, the sign of the product is still positive.
Example:
(-142) x (-120) = 17,040.

Therefore: When we are multiplying numbers with like signs, their products are always POSITIVE.

UNLIKE SIGNS
Rules:
1.) Positive multiplicand multiplied by a negative multiplier will result to a negative product.
Example:
(132) x (-13) = -1,716

2.) Negative multiplicand multiplied by a positive multiplier will still result to a negative product.
Example:
(-121) x (165) = -19,965

Remember:

Multiplying numbers with like signs will result to a positive product while multiplying numbers with unlike signs will result to a negative product.
Anyway, the reason why I made this post is not to let you reminisce what you have ascertained in your Math subject way back in your elementary days because I know, this topic is so E.A.S.Y. Right?...Shame on you then, if you are educated then you don't know this.

Nevertheless, the topic about "Rules of Multiplying Signed Numbers" somehow made me realize something. And I want to share this to all of you:
Simple but TRUE!

After So Much Pain

When I checked my Facebook account just a while ago right after my training hours, I saw on my friend's profile a picture (shown above) which really amazed me about this "LOVE" thing. I was deeply touched by those messages indicated by the image. I reminisced one of my Panitikan assignment which also has its connection about this thing. And I can say I have experienced that as if I am but I have remembered a love quote shared by a friend of mine says:

Never be fooled by your heart because its real purpose is NOT TO LOVE...but TO PUMP BLOODYou should know that.
After my friend shared that quote to me, I laughed at him seriously, but deep inside if you look and understand it,  it really does make sense. Right? For as long as you feel the "love" there will always be pain. And as human as we are, we just really NEED to look at the brighter side if we happened to be brokenhearted (a.k.a. be OPTIMISTIC!). In fact, I know its really hard to accept right away that you are already broke up with the person you have seriously loved for so long but the best way to do is to relax and feel the pain until it hurts no more.

BUT there are some instances, that we can't really let go of the hurt...because it is a constant reminder of A GREAT LOVE STORY you never expected to come to an end. Anyways, it's not a thing to regret for, you just purely love a person more than your ego, and that's it. Before I will gonna end this post, I know in myself that love isn't just always about the happiness you have shared each other with your loved one or just about how clairvoyant your realm when you're with him/her. But sometimes love is when you experience pain deep down inside because in that incident in your life you know that you have sacrificed something for nothing. Love works with your eyes widely open to what we called "reality" and fairy tales stuffs are brought by merely imagining a splendid chimera. Love when you are ready to cry and be hurt. Why? Tears only fall from your eyes when your heart is captured by a bittersweet emotion called "LOVE".

Harming Others

Last night as I am about to sleep, I am thinking of a lot of things in my life today specially my fears. I don't know why? What shocked me, was when I cogitated for a snake. I questioned myself. why snake? For a lot of memories in my past which were more formidable compared to a reptile. I've accepted that I got Ophidiophobia, the fear of snakes. But one thing, I have reminisced about this reptile was the story told by a friend of mine in the past which has a connection to what we called "reality". When we say reality, it is happening until today. Actually I have already translated the story, and to all who are not yet familiar with this, here it goes...

The story started when there was a snake got into a shop which sold different kinds of knives. It begun licking the knives one by one. Very soon, the knives were bathed by blood, and being cruel by nature, the snake licked harder and harder, quite glad that it was not hurting the knives. Little did the foolish snake knew that it was its own tongue that was bleeding. After quite some time, the snake felt tired and faint already and before it knew what was happening, it felt down unconscious.

Lesson: If we rejoice in harming others, we may end up harming ourselves.

Au Revoir Epistaxis

Wonder why I entitled this post "Au Revoir Epistaxis?"

Actually Au Revoir is a French word means goodbye while Epistaxis is the medical term for nosebleed. In short, it means Goodbye Nosebleed

Nosebleed has been an expression nowadays that whenever we encounter people who are speaking English, we necessarily tell them we got "nosebleed" from their words. Don't we ever know that speaking English fluently is an edge of you from others?

In fact, English is globally accepted universal language, so therefore it is a tool that you can exercise to confabulate things all over the world. Speaking English fluently is an apparent task, if you put your mind to it. Actually, it is somewhat needs your concentration of learning more and practicing more. If you think its kinda hard, then  it will be the beginning that you might face problems.

"Fluency in English is accuracy with good pronunciation-not speed". In other words, speaking English fluently is not speaking fast; it is speaking conspicuous, appropriate and with the right flow.

Well then, here is now your chance to speak English better. Just have the confidence and be optimistic. Here are some tips

  1. Be curious about the correct pronunciation of the words through consulting it in the dictionary. In fact  familiarize yourself about the phonetic symbols.
  2. Try to rent and watch English movies DVDs with subtitles and keep a dictionary nearby, just in case you encounter a new word in the movie, you can pause and glance its meaning.
  3. Talk to friends who are also learning English. Go out together to malls or eat somewhere and only speak English to each other.
  4. Get over any apprehensiveness that you have might committing mistakes. You will commit mistakes.
  5. Try to listen and sing English songs.
  6. Try to practice English Tongue Twisters. Its a practice for your pronunciation plus an exercise for your muscles in your mouth.
  7. Read English newspapers. You may encounter there new words and yet you able to learn how to react some issues in English speaking.
  8. Join an English club or an English organization. There, you may able to mingle new people and have conversations with them using the English language.
  9. If you have the money, you can try to travel to an English speaking country specially in the U.S.
  10. Read English books or short stories..Read it loudly while you are alone in a place.

These are how I learned. To be very conscientious, speaking English fluently is not something we can effectuate right away. It needs what we called "patience" for it is a ceaseless process. The more we try, the more we speak English fluently.

By that time you will be already immune in English speaking, a time that you can already say - "Goodbye Nosebleed"
